- History / Biographical
- George M. Smith was born on January 1, 1916 in Aylmer, Ontario, to Pearl Eva Woolley and Clarence Smith. Smith worked at the Smith Lumber Mill on Wellington Street in Aylmer. He was involved in several fraternal organizations, including as a junior warden of Malahide Lodge No. 140, a member of London Lodge of Perfection, London Sovereign Chapter, Ros Croix, A. and A.S.R., Royal Arch Chapter No. 81, and Aylmer Lodge No. 94, I.O.O.F. He attended the Aylmer Baptist Church, and was an active member of the Aylmer and East Elgin Sportsmen's Association. He died on January 16, 1957, at the age of 41, after suffering from a heart condition. He is buried at the Aylmer Cemetery with his parents and two brothers, Edward and Ross.
