- Photographs of an aerial view of the St. Thomas-Elgin memorial Arena-Auditorium.
Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, May 5, 1953, page one: “How Arena-Auditorium Looks From Firemen’s Ladder.”
1_354: “Here’s a fireman’s eye-view of the site of the St. Thomas-Elgin memorial Arena-Auditorium. During ladder exercises of the firemen’s school at the Wilson avenue armory Monday afternoon, Jack Stollery and camera were hoisted to the full loft of 75 feet on the fire department’s ladder truck, from which he gained this vantage point for a shot which shows how things are coming along on the big civic project. It shows three of the massive, 93-ton concrete beams elevated to their permanent position over the arena proper, seven others inside the walls waiting to be raised. The walls of the adjoining auditorium section at the Wilson avenue front background takes in the C. & O. terminal facilities and, farther to left, Elmdale Memorial Park, centre, and Elmdale school, right.”
