- Scope and Content
- Photographs of a burnt down barn and silo on Douglas Gunning’s property. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, February 25, 1952, page one: “Talbotville Barns Destroyed in $10,000 Fire: Three Fire Brigades Called to Battle Stubborn Blaze on Douglas Gunning Farm.” 2_2844: “Ruins of three barns owned by Douglas Gunning, Talbotville, which were destroyed in an early morning fire, were still blazing and smoking at noon on Wednesday. Loss, which was partially covered by insurance, was estimated at $10,000 by the owner. A concrete silo and parts of the brick foundation of the main barn which stood about the centre of the ruins were all that was left standing two hours after the fire was discovered. Ruins of one implement barn can be seen on the left in the photo and in the foreground are smouldering ruins of a combination implement shed and chicken house.”
