2_2558: “The six new members who took their seats at the Elgin County Council board, Tuesday afternoon, joining the 17 members returning from 1952, are shown above. From left to right, they are: Deputy Reeve Philip Schleihauf of Aldborough Township; Deputy Reeve Cyril Williams, of Yarmouth Township; Reeve John B. Wilson, of South Dorchester, the third generation of his family to sit in County Council as reeve of South Dorchester; Deputy Reeve Clarence Culver of Southwold Township; Deputy Reeve Walter Nelson of Bayham Township, and Reeve Gordon Beattie of West Lorne. Reeve Beattie, like Deputy Reeve Phil Pensa of Port Stanley, won the reeveship on an election recount requested by his opponent.”
