- Scope and Content
- Photographs of the exterior of the Catholic school in Malahide. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, January 15, 1953, page eleven: “New School Being Built in Malahide.” 2_2521: “Just about the busiest place in East Elgin is the new two classroom Roman Catholic separate school that is under construction in No. 5 Section of Malahide Township, on the east side of Queen’s Highway No. 73, about a half mile south of Dunboyne. The school accommodations are so urgently needed that children were established in the classroom on the south side about a week ago. The work of getting the classroom on the north side completed is being rushed by the general contractor, Don Rawlins of Aylmer. The above photograph was taken for The Times-Journal on Tuesday afternoon and gives some idea of how busy this school structure is. The cars belong to the general contractor’s forces and the general contractor’s forces and the plumber and other sub-contractors. At the southwest corner, a drilling rig was in operation, drilling a deep water well for the school. More than 30 children were in the classroom inside. The school, when completed will be modern in every detail. In addition to the two standard-sized classrooms, it will contain large, attractive washrooms and lavatories for the children; a teachers’ room, and also a furnace room. The school has no basement. Construction material is poured concrete for the foundation; concrete block walls and concrete plaster finish. It is hoped to have the school completed and ready for full occupancy by about January 26.”
