- Scope and Content
- Photographs of George Hunt holding a mandolin. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, October 24, 1952, page ten: “New Method of Playing Mandolin.” 2_1899: “George Hunt, 27 Flora street, a veteran of the Boer War, has originated a new method of playing the mandolin which has been adopted by the Ontario Conservatory of Music at Galt. Mr. Hunt plays the instrument in a manner similar to that used in playing the guitar. He places the mandolin across his knees rather than across the chest, and uses a pic and a bar on the strings. Mr. Hunt finds that the instrument can be played for much longer period using this method, since the fingers do not tire as quickly as they do under the conventual style. Mr. Hunt designed the special bar used in his method.”
