2_1448 and 2_1445: “Two pictures taken during the civic banquet tendered in honor of Lord Elgin and the Countess at the Grand Central Hotel on Wednesday evening and which was attended by upwards of 200. The upper photograph is of a section of the throng of guests, and in the lower are several at the head table, including Lord Elgin, at the left; Mayor T. H. Currah, Lady Elgin, Warden R. K. McNeil, Brigadier J. M. Pocock, of London, who commands the 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade (R. F.), and at the lower right, foreground, Alderman Peter Laing.”

2_1449: “Last evening at the civic dinner at the Grand Central Hotel tendered to Lord and Lady Elgin, the Elgin National Watch Co. of Elgin, Ill., presented a fine pocket watch to Elgin County’s 1952 warden, Ronald K. McNeil, of Springfield, through Lord Elgin. The watch is to be passed along to each successive warden. In the above photograph of Lord Elgin making the presentation, Gordon Fenwick, of Toronto, Canadian representative of the Elgin Watch Co., stands at the left and he president of the company, J. G. Shennan, of Elgin, Ill., is at the right.”
