2_1240: “Training units of the big cast that will appear in the Historic Spectacle at Athletic Park during the Elgin and St. Thomas Centennial is now in progress. Important among those appearing in this cavalcade of history are the ballet dancers. Shown above is Billy Petch, director of choreography, instructing three of the pretty girls who will appear in the dance sequences, on the lawn of the Centennial secretary, Mrs. E.B. Potts, Yarmouth Heights. Left to right, the girls are: Barbara Kaplanis, 70 Curtis street; Joan Robertson, 181 Forest avenue; Charline Bennett, 81 Redan street. It will be a busy time for Mr. Petch; for Gordon Hilker, production supervisor for Fonger Studios, Toronto; and also for Larry McCance, script writer, commentator and stage director, for the next three weeks. Between 700 and 800 St. Thomas and Elgin people will take part in the Spectacle. They will appear on the largest stage ever built in Western Ontario. The Spectacle is a tremendous undertaking, designed to depict every phase of progress from pioneer days of the Talbot Settlement. The costuming along involves hundreds of dresses and suits, top hats and other finery of other days.”
