- Scope and Content
- Photographs of Miss Dorothy Coville holding the crest from St. Thomas’s Hospital in London, England. 2_552: “The ancient crest of St. Thomas’s Hospital in London, England, where Florence Nightingale trained, has been received as a gift to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital and will be given a place of honor in the masonry of the new hospital, either inside the main hallway and lobby or at the entrance. The location is to be decided soon as the crest may be included in the cornerstone and dedication ceremonies that are planned as a Centennial feature in August. “The ancient crest of the famed British hospital was salvaged from the wreckage of the countless bombings during the Second World War and was set into a block of the original stone that was also salvaged. The crest is believed to be several hundred years old, embossed on old bronze or copper. It has been re-illuminated in England. “Shown admiring the ancient crest above is Miss Dorothy Coville, a member of the 1952 graduating class of the Memorial Hospital Nurses’ Training school. They will be receiving their diplomas in June.” (…)
