- Photograph of Mrs. W.C. Miller and Mrs. Donald Gloin. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, March 29, 1952, page twenty: “Girl Guides Commissioners.” 2_468: “Announcements of much interest to Girl Guides and Brownies of this district have been made this week. Mrs. W.C. Miller (left) has been appointed by Mrs. John McHale, Jr., of London, Ont., Commissioner for Talbot Area, as the Divisional Commissioner for Elgin Division. This includes Rodney, Dutton, Port Stanley, Aylmer, Straffordville, Vienna and Tillsonburg as well as St. Thomas. Mrs. Miller is widely known by the Girl Guides and Brownies of this district, having been the energetic and popular District Commissioner for the past five years, during which time she made frequent official visits to the various Girl Guide Companies and Brownie Packs. “Mrs. Miller as Divisional Commissioner has appointed Mrs. Donald Gloin (right) as District Commissioner. Mrs. Gloin, the former Anne Hathaway, has been an active and outstanding Girl Guide since childhood and a few years ago received the coveted award of the Girl Guide Gold Cord. She was District Captain for a time and has been Brown Owl of Third Brownie Pack. She also conducts the comprehensive and very readable Girl Guide column in The Times-Journal. “Mrs. Miller has appointed Mrs. Ernest Fahner, Jr., of Port Stanley, as Divisional Secretary, and Mrs. Gloin has appointed Mrs. A. LeCourtois, of St. Thomas, as District Secretary.”
