- Scope and Content
- Photographs of an automobile accident in Straffordville, showing a car in a ditch and the damage to the vehicle. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, September 15, 1951, page one: “Car in Crash, Rolls 75 Feet Down Embankment.” 1_2804: “Robert H. Nunn, R.R. 1, Aylmer, had a miraculous escape from death or serious injury Thursday night when his car was sideclipped by another car on the county road about a mile west of Straffordville, went out of control, clipped off a string of guard rails and then rolled over and over to the bottom of a 75 foot embankment, landing upsidedown among the underbrush. Nunn crawled out of his car with only a scratch on one hand. The car reported to have clipped the Nunn car was owned by Art Leonard of Bluewater, Ont., and driven by Robert Cote of Hamilton, tobacco worker. It took a powerful wrecking truck with windlass equipment and a force of men to get Nunn’s car up the embankment and on the highway again, late Friday morning. Cote, in police court Friday was fined $10 and costs and ordered to refrain from driving for sixty days.”
