- Rev. Dr. Robert Ironsides Warner was born in the Niagara region on October 22, 1848, and died in St. Thomas in November 1924. He married Catherine D. Parsons and had two children, Robert Parsons Warner (died in infancy), Robert Ironsides Warner, and Wilfrid Warner.
He was an employee of Alma College for over 43 years, first as a Professor of Modern Languages at Alma College from 1881-1897, then as Alma College's Principal from 1897-1919. He was Principal Emeritus from 1920 until his death in 1924. While serving as Principal for the school, he also taught courses in Religious Knowledge and Psychology.
He also served in the ministry of the Methodist Church for over 47 years, and received an honourary Doctor of Divinity from the University of Victoria in 1902.
