- Scope and Content
- Photographs of the members of the Elgin County Council and their young visitors. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal on November 22, 1950, page one: “Elgin Youth Are Guest of County Councillors.” 1_1111: “A representative group of Elgin County boys and youth attended the opening of the Elgin County Council’s November sessions, Tuesday, as guest of the Councillors. The custom of bringing in a group of Elgin young people on the opening day of the November session was started about five years ago and now become in the nature of an institution, being known as Young Elgin Day. The 1950 guests are shown above with their escorts just before starting a tour of the courthouse and the registry office. They were conducted on the tours by Deputy Reeves Ted Ashton, Aldborough; Walter Auckland, Southwold; William McKillop, Dunwich; and James Fuller of Malahide. The boys completed the day with a visit to the Elgin County Home. One of the last from East Elgin said it was the first time he had ever been in St. Thomas or Port Stanley, where noonday luncheon was enjoyed at the Stork Club.”
