Front row, left to right: Anne Blue, Wallacetown, who finished fourth; Helen Pettit, St. Thomas, third; Margaret McWilliams, Wallacetown, who took first honors. Back row: Mrs. Ethel Longfield, Mossley, fifth; and Cela McKillop, Wallacetown, second.” Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal on October 27, 1949, page six: “Plowmen’s President Prize Winner.” 2_2462: “Fred Charlton, Springfield, president of the Elgin County Plowmen’s Association, was a busy man at the match Wednesday. But he wasn’t so busy attending to his official duties hat he couldn’t go out and take seconds prise in the tractor playing in sod for Junior Farmers, 17 to 26 years. Harold Ellis, also from the Aylmer-Springfield district, took first prize in this class and also the special for the highest scoring land in the junior section with 83 point.”
