- David McLaws lived in Wallacetown, Ontario, and served as surrogate court clerk and registrar for Elgin County for 45 years. He was also Deputy Reeve of Dunwich Township and an Elgin County Councillor from 1869 to 1871.

- File maintained by Don Cosens for reference and research purposes. File contains original correspondence received from David McLaws as well as a booklet titled Free Trade and Direct Taxation, written by McLaws. File also includes the following items:
- -Certificate of Commission Appointing David McLaws to be Clerk of the County Court, dated June 30, 1879
- -Certificate of Commission appointing David McLaws to be Local Registrar of the County of Elgin, dated October 22, 1884.
- -Typed summary regarding an event involving Nicol McColl, in which David McLaws delivered a speech and a resolution condemning McColl was voted unanimously.
- -Obituary for Mary (Mamie) McLaws, published in the St. Thomas Times-Journal on January 7, 1983.
