- Scope and Content
- Photographs of cattle and sheep near Shedden, taken on April 30, 1946. Photographs are of two to three year old Hereford steers on the farm of Stewart Brown, reeve of Southwold Township, off No. 3 Highway, West of Shedden. They were being fitted for the July market. West Elgin had been noted for the number and quality of its herds. Photographs were also taken of pure bred registered Jerseys, which have made Frank H. Silcox of Iona popular as a breeder throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Silcox was a past president of the Canadian Jersey Breeder's Association and a director of the organization. Silcox has regular clientele in the United States, many of his cows going to Alabama, and recently sold over a hundred Jerseys to a Michigan buyer. The Jerseys photograped by the Times-Journal were old cows that had been turned out to light pasture, while the best stock of heifers remained in the barn.
