- Mr. Archibald McLachlin was the founder of McLachlin's Bookstore (later Campbell's), Publisher of "The Canadian Home Journal", 1859-1876; Clerk-Treasurer of Yarmouth Township in the 1860s; Mayor of St. Thomas in 1872; Registrar of Elgin County, 1876-1888. Resided at 1 Wellington Street, a home later owned by his grandson, Mr. Archibald McLachlin of Montreal.
