- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published October 21, 1959 with caption: "A Chief's Welcome - Some competition for Chief Mazzeppa arrived in St. Thomas on Tuesday afternoon, in the person of Chief Clearup, a Blackfoot Indian built by Tom Domiani, of Upland, Calif. Mr. Domiani, visiting John Kozachuk of 6 Rapelje street on his way through to New York City, is a full-time manufacturer of lifelike Indian replicas. To appropriately mark the occassion, Mayor V. A. Barrie, also in Indian regalia, gave the visitor a Chief's welcome to the city. In the above photo, the Mayor wears Chief Clearup's regalia and buffalo spear during the ceremony. From left to right are: Mr. Domiani; Mr. Kozachuk, the Chief, and Mayor Barrie." (1)

The first DDD call was made today by Mayor Vincent A. Barrie didn't take the time last night to change from his costume-type attire after attending the annual Colonel Thomas Talbot anniversary dinner at the Grand Central Hotel. Arriving at the City Hall midway through a Council committee session, Mayor Barrie assumed his seat of office and proceeded with business as usual. His attire is similar to that worn by the reeve of St. Thomas in 1821." (4)
