- Scope and Content
- Digitized copy of an original survey plan of the Township of Blandford, County of Oxford, registered May 16, 1826, Surveyor General's Office, York, Thomas Ridout, Surveyor General. Scale 1 inch equals 40 chains. Various lots shown in the plan are colour in gray and red ink, and the legend indicates that this signifies Clergy (gray) and Crown (red) reserves. The future site of the Town of Woodstock is shown (tract marked "Reserved" in the southwest corner). Land in this township was distributed principally to former Royal Army and Royal Navy officers as compensation for their service: accordingly, several lots shown in this plan are marked as reserved for or granted to Captain Andrew Drew, R.N., 1792-1878; Admiral Henry Vansittart, R.N., 1777-1843; Major Edward Buller, 1764-1824; Colonel Philip Delatre, 1777-1848; Major Hugh Barwick, who later served as Oxford County Treasurer; Colonel R.A. Hunter, who is credited with establishing the first grammar school in Oxford County in 1848; and William Allan, ca. 1770-1853, member of the Legislative Council of Upper Canada 1825-1841.
