Scope and Content
Five black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal published October 24, 1966 with captions: Youngest Plowman - Richard Andrews, 12, was the youngest competitor in the Elgin County plowing match on his father's farm at R.R. 6, St. Thomas, Saturday. Here he is coached by Mr. Andrews before plowing to sixth place in the utility class." (27a)
"Versitile Princess - Lynda Mae Prong, dairy princess for Elgin County, proved she is a girl of many occupations when she competed in the annual county plowing match Saturday." (22b)
"Awards Presented - Among those who attended the plowmen's banquet following the plowing match Saturday were (from left) Jack Jamieson of R.R. 1, West Lorne, winner in two classes; Neil Gilchrist of Rodney, plowmen's association president; Lynda Mae Prong and Mrs. Ronald Ann Prong of R.R. 1, Aylmer, only entrants in the ladies' class; A.V. Langton, agricultural representative for Elgin County; Stan Pearn of R.R. 1, Southwold, and Dave Somers of R.R. 8, St. Thomas, who won the horseshoe pitching." (27c)
"Lucky Horseshoe - The Elgin horseshoe pitching contest added a lot more fun to the annual county plowing match day. Here Albert and Walter Auckland await their turn in foreground while their team members, Warden John McKinlay of Elgin and Frank Pineo, have their go." (27d)
"Wins Corn - Harold Walker of R.R. 1, Port Stanley, who took part in two plowing classes, won half a bushel of Pride Corn for the second best plowed land in Southwold Township." (27e)
