- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 10, 1970 with caption:" Several nests of bluebirds have been reported near St. Thomas this year. It may be an indication that bluebirds are becoming more plentiful. Probably no bird is closer to the hearts of many people, who, over the years, have grieved their gradual decline. In the above picture a female bluebird is about to enter the 1 1/2 inch hole in a fruit can which the pair have been utilizing for a nest. Walter Auckland of Talbotville, who said he had not seen a bluebird for many years, was surprised that the birds came to his yard and took over the can that he had nailed to the top of the fence."
