- Two black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published September 11, 1961 with captions:
- "At the Unveiling - A plaque in memory of the late Jonathan Doan and the Sparta Settlement which he founded, was unveiled on Sunday (September 10, 1961) under the direction of the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board of Ontario and the Sparta Sorosis Women's Institute. Those taking part in the ceremony are pictured above. From left to right: Leslie R. Gray, Ontario Historical Society representative; Burton Hill, Galt, Recognized minister of Friends; J. Doan, of Aylmer, who unveiled the plaque; Mrs. J. Rewbotham, president of the Sparta Sorosis W.I., program chairman; Mrs. Katherine Willson, Union, who sang the Lord's Prayer, Reeve Donald Burgess, of Yarmouth, Warden of Elgin County, and R. K. McNeil, M.P.P for Elgin." (6a)
- "Kin Read Plaque - Following a ceremony at Friends cemetery in Sparta on Sunday afternoon, relatives of Jonathan Doan stopped to read the plaque which was unveiled in his memory and that of the Sparta Settlement, which he founded. From left to right: Jack Doan, Aylmer, who participated in the unveiling; Alex Doan and Cyril Doan, both of Norwich. The latter is a great-great grandson of Jonathan Doan." (6b)
