- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published October 24, 1973 with caption:"Baptist Churches Rally - The Sparta Baptist Church hosted a 'Fall Rally' Wednesday afternoon and evening. Members of 14 Elgin County Baptist congregations attended the conference, religious services, supper and address by Rev. W.J. Phillips of McMaster University, who spoke on the life and works of Rev. Alexander MacDonald, an early pioneer missionary who preached in Sparta 100 years ago. Standing from left to right are: Rev. Fred Ward of the Department of the Ministry; Harold Ashton, moderator; Rev. John Dickinson, pastor of the Sparta Baptist Church, dressed in a costume to represent MacDonald; and Mr. Phillips."
