- Scope and Content
- Photograph shows the home of Alvin Jay, lot 5, King Street North in Sparta. The house was built by Alvin Jay in 1892 of white brick. In 1898 he sold it to William Kerley, who in 1902 sold it to Joseph Vincent. Vincent sold it to Dr. G. A. Shannon in 1909. In 1913, William Cole took over the house from his son-in-law Dr. Shannon. In 1916 Dr. Lee Elliott bought the house and was still iving there in 1955.
Alvin H. Jay died in 1906 at the age of 79 years.
Included in the Sparta Sorosis Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History Book, Volume Two.
- (The name Alvin Jay and Albin Jay are used for the same man. Census records and his death registration read Alvin, while the Tweedsmuir history reads Albin).
