- "Dead Tree Removal - This tree cut down by a Ministry of Transportation and Communications crew blocked Highway 3 east of Aylmer for a short time Tuesday morning. A front-end loader, chain saws, and a chopping machine were used in the work. The smaller branches were chopped into chips while the usable portion of the trunk goes back to the landowner, according to the MTC foreman on the job. The east-west traffic was halted for about 15 minutes and one lane was opened shortly afterward". (7a)
- "Battling the Energy Crisis? - No, not actually but these men are certainly expending their own energy to clear away the remains of a maple tree removed from the side of Highway 3 just west of Aylmer. Ministry of Transportation and Communications crew were in the area last week removing dead trees. Lawrence Veraart, of RR 5, Aylmer, left, who lives nearby, said there was one log that measures eight feet in length and about two feet across that will be usable. The remainder will either be discarded or used as firewood. Keith Bodkin, of Aylmer is shown here collecting wood for his fireplace. He estimated the tree to be 150 years old. "It was very large when we moved here 40 years ago," he said". (7b)
