- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published October 23, 1980 with caption: " Annie Burkitt, dressed in the garb of a Tower of London guard, sits in the famous Golden Mini at the Elgin Mall Wednesday. Mrs. Burkitt and her husband, Ken, started their charity tour from the tower over a year ago and will be at the Elgin Mall until Saturday night promoting the Save the Children Fund. The car is covered with 8,500 gold-plated, pre-decimal pennies set into polyester resin, which adds an extra 160 pounds weight to the vehicle. The Save the Children Fund is an independent charity which will be celebrating its diamond jubilee in 1981. All money raised in a county is used to help the children of that particular country. The Burkitts are being helped in Elgin County by their friends Mr. and Mrs. Alf Larson of Redan Street."
