- Scope and Content
- Frederick Bailey, carriage builder and Charles W. Pearce, blacksmith, St. Thomas, ca. 1908. Located at 17-21 Hiawatha Street, on the east side of Hiawatha Street, between Curtis and Talbot Streets. The small building immediately to the north (left) of Bailey's carriage works was Bill Batty's home. Note the projecting roof beam on the Bailey carriage works building, which in earlier days was equipped with a pulley assembly for raising and lowering materials to and from the upper storey. This building was later used by Hamilton and Stott's Plumbing Shop. Immediately to the south (right) of the Bailey Carriage Works building was the Charles W. Pearce Blacksmithing Shop operated by Charles Pearce, who was later the clerk at the Horton Street Market. View is looking southeast from Curtis Street.
