Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal on April 22, 1950, page one: “They Liked the Band’s Performance.” 2_3509: “Three of the principals at the celebration dinner for St. George’s Day by the Elgin regiment on Friday evening appeared in the above group photograph, Lieut.-General Charles Foulkes, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., Chief of the General Staff, who was guest of honor, flacking Lt.-Col. Harry Medcalf on the left, and Brigadier J.A. W. Bennett, O.B.E., of London, on the right. Their pleased expressions reflect the enjoyment they got from a demonstration by the new Elgin Regiment Trumpet Band which they were watching when the phot was taken.”

Clipping describing a passing out parade in the drill hall at the Wilson Avenue Armoury of members of the Elgin Regiment (27th Armoured) qualifying for non-commissioned rank in the regiment. Lt.-Col. E. G. King described this class as one of the finest. Members of the class included Corporal Fred Dentry, Trooper Norman Staddon, Lieutenant Desmond Dunn, Sergeant Frank Ainsworth, Trooper Keith Tompkins, Corporal Lolly Marshall, Corporal James Wodham, Corporal Lyle Hill, Trooper W.D. Topping, Trooper George Austin, Lance Corporal Don Taylor, Trooper Frank Marlatt, Lance Corporal David Marr, Lance Corporal Herbert Welch, and Trooper James Matsumoto.
