O'Neill, who assumed pastoral charge of the Central United Church about a month and a half ago, was inducted Thursday night in a service of worship conducted by members of the Elgin Presbytery. Mr. O'Neill is seen here flanked on his right by Rev. Murray Barnet of Dunwich Pastoral Charge, and chairman of the Presbytery; and on his left by Ken Samis, an elder of the Central United, and member of the Elgin Presbytery. Mr. Samis presented the new minister and Mr. Barnet inducted him."

Copy of an original photograph of First United Church, St. Thomas, showing damage caused by the fire of March 11, 1946. Located on the northwest corner of Curtis and St. George Streets. Built ca. 1872-1873 and opened March 30, 1873 under its original name, St. George Street Methodist Church. The church was renamed First Methodist Church, ca. 1880; was badly damaged by fire in March, 1895; rebuilt in 1895 by architect Neil Darrach and re-opened in December 1895; renamed First United Church in 1925. View is looking southwest along St. George Street. Following the fire, the congregation met for services in the old Columbia Theatre building on the northwest corner of Talbot and Mondamin Streets. The church was rebuilt and re-opened in 1950. View also includes the Thomas Curtis house (built 1822) on the southwest corner of St. George and Curtis Streets, Stan Young and Bill Burger service station (maintained a 60-car underground winter storage garage and acted as official driving test examiners), Stewart/Lindsay Block on Talbot Street, roof of the Opera House, house immediately to the north of the church on St. George Street.
